The opportunity of a long weekend in the Aoraki-Mt Cook areas was tempting. An easy decision to make; the area has always held a fascination for me and what I had heard of Anah’s trip’s away was enticing. Plus, like most of us, a much needed break away from a very busy job.
I’ve done everything on my own for decades. How would I “go” with a group of women I didn’t know? This was the one reservation. Just get on with the booking, stick with the plan and look forward to a new experience I told myself.
Well, what reservation? The women were all just lovely, very friendly, welcoming and such a lot of fun.
Steve, Anah’s partner, whose intimate knowledge of all things South Island and absolute love and knowledge of the mountains could not have been a better “chauffeur”/ guide/helper/story teller and history teacher.
Try time away with your own in-house personal chef who produces scrumptious meals morning, noon and night – and more; being told to sit down, put your feet up, relax is very hard to do but when you do get into the swing it is bliss! Pampering by way of a professional relaxing massage after an invigorating walk up the beautiful Hooker Valley caps it all off.
Not to forget viewing the majesty of Aoraki-Mt Cook and the grandeur of all the surrounding mountains which is simply breathtaking.
Anah’s genuine enthusiasm, caring, empathy, interest in all people and her deep love of the environment makes time on her journeys special. If you are contemplating joining her on one of her trips then just do it.
Surprises on the journey are endless. Every time I look up at the stars now I think of her and Steve and the surprise stop at Mt John Observatory just out of Tekapo on the way to our destination. Looking at the heavens and stars through the gigantic telescope blew me away.
